Dive sites
29 sites across North and Central Komodo, from beginner reefs to expert drift dives. We pick each day's sites the night before, based on the tide, the current and the divers on board.
How we rate sites
The park
Komodo National Park covers more than 1,700 km² where the Indian and Pacific oceans meet. Our day trips cover the central and northern sites.
Closest to Labuan Bajo: sloping reefs, turtle-filled coral gardens and the park's famous manta cleaning stations.
Pinnacles, seamounts and channels where the currents run stronger and the big fish gather. Reef hooks often come out.
Cooler, plankton-rich water at sites like Manta Alley and Cannibal Rock, best reached on a liveaboard. Ask us for advice.

Central Komodo
A gentle, sloping reef off a small island and one of the best places in the park for a first dive or a refresher. Calm water, healthy hard corals and plenty of turtles.
Current:Mild
Central Komodo
A manta cleaning station over coral and rubble where mantas come in close to be cleaned. Settle down, keep your distance and let them come to you.
Current:Moderate
Central Komodo
Also called Manta Point
A long, shallow drift over rubble and sand where mantas gather in numbers. On a good day you can see several on a single dive.
Current:Moderate drift
Central Komodo
A drift along a sloping reef where reef sharks patrol the corner and big schools of fish hang in the current.
Current:Moderate to strong
Central Komodo
A tiny rock with a hole through its top and some of the healthiest coral in the park. Clouds of fish swarm the sheltered side while the current rips past the edges, so timing is everything.
Current:Strong, with sheltered sides
Central Komodo
A small rocky island ringed by boulders, swim-throughs and some of the most colourful soft corals in Komodo. The current can pick up quickly, which is exactly what brings the schools in.
Current:Strong at times
North Komodo
A submerged pinnacle with some of the clearest water in the park, often up to 30 m visibility. Soft corals, turtles and schooling fish cover the rock, and reef hooks come out when the current runs.
Current:Moderate to strong
North Komodo
A seamount in open water where huge schools of fusiliers draw in reef sharks, giant trevally and other hunters. We aim to arrive in the feeding window, before the other boats.
Current:Strong
North Komodo
Also called Shotgun
A sandy bowl that funnels into a fast channel, the famous shotgun ride. Mantas, sharks and giant trevally are regulars, and we only dive it on the right tide with experienced divers.
Current:Very strong
When to come
We dive all year round. Here is what each season brings.
Great conditions settle in across Central and North Komodo.
Prime time for big fish and the northern sites. Book 2 to 3 weeks ahead.
The main season carries on through November across the park.
Mantas gather in numbers, and 6 to 12 at one cleaning station is normal.
Safety comes first on every site. Groups never go above four divers per guide, the strongest sites are only dived on suitable tides with experienced divers, and every dive stays within no-decompression limits.
