FAQ
Questions, answered.
Everything divers ask us before a trip to Komodo: seasons, prices, courses, park fees and what a day on the boat looks like.
01
Planning your trip
How long to stay, when to come and what it costs.
How many days do I need?
Plan at least 3 days to cover the north, the central park and the manta sites. Four to six days is ideal: 12 to 18 dives, with a rest day and a Komodo dragon trek in between.
When is the best time to dive Komodo?
We dive year-round. The main season runs from April to November, July to September is peak time for big fish and the northern sites, and December to March brings the big manta aggregations.
What does a typical dive day look like?
Hotel pickup between 06:00 and 06:30, the boat leaves at 06:50, then three guided dives at Central or North Komodo sites with a hot lunch on board. You are back at your hotel by about 16:00 to 16:30.
How much does a dive day cost?
A 3-dive fun dive day is Rp 2.715.000 (about US$154) when you book online, and the daily rate drops on multi-day packages to about US$141 a day over seven days. Park fees are extra and paid on the day.
Day trips or a liveaboard?
Day trips suit most divers: they cost less, stay flexible and reach the Central and North sites. A liveaboard makes more sense for southern sites like Manta Alley and Cannibal Rock, for four or more dive days in a row, or if you want to wake up at the dive site. Liveaboards start from around US$1,500 per person.
How do I book and pay?
Send a booking request online or message us on WhatsApp. We confirm availability, your price and pickup details, then a deposit secures your spot. Booking online saves at least Rp 85.000 (about US$5) per diver compared with walking in.
Do you offer group discounts?
Yes. Fun diving groups save 5% with 5 or more divers, 8% with 10 or more and 10% with 20 or more, applied automatically.
02
Diving and dive sites
Currents, mantas, visibility and what you need to dive with us.
How strong are the currents?
Most sites have a moderate drift. Castle Rock and The Cauldron (Shotgun) can run much stronger, so we only dive them on suitable tides with experienced divers.
When can I see manta rays?
All year round. The peak is December to March, when seeing 6 to 12 mantas at one cleaning station is normal.
What is the visibility like?
Usually 15 to 25 m in the central park, up to 30 m at Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, and 10 to 18 m in the south.
How deep are the dives?
Usually 18 to 24 m. Advanced divers can go to 30 m at Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, always within no-decompression limits.
What certification do I need?
Open Water or an equivalent for fun diving, and we recommend Advanced Open Water for the North Komodo sites. Not certified yet? Try Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water course.
Can I dive on nitrox?
Yes. EAN32 costs Rp 300.000 per diver per day if you hold a Nitrox card, or you can take the Enriched Air Nitrox course with us.
03
PADI courses
Getting certified and levelling up in Komodo.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You need to swim 200 m without stopping, any stroke and with no time limit, and float for 10 minutes. That is all.
What is the minimum age?
Ten years old for the Open Water course, which earns the Junior Open Water Diver certification. Juniors aged 10 and 11 dive with a certified parent or PADI pro and stay within 12 m.
Can I fail the Open Water course?
No. It is competency-based: you practise each skill until you are comfortable, and extra pool sessions are free if you need them.
Should I do the eLearning before I arrive?
Yes, we recommend it. Your PADI eLearning code arrives by email once your deposit clears, and it takes about 8 hours on a phone or laptop.
Which specialty should I take first?
Peak Performance Buoyancy or Enriched Air Nitrox. Both take one day and pay off on every dive for the rest of your trip. Popular pairings are Nitrox with Buoyancy, Deep with Nitrox, Drift with Buoyancy, and Emergency First Response with Rescue.
Is my certification recognised everywhere?
Yes. PADI certifications are accepted at dive centers all over the world, and they never expire.
04
Park fees and practical info
Fees, pickup, what to bring and who can come along.
Are Komodo National Park fees included?
No. Park fees go to the park, not to us, and are paid on the day. International visitors pay Rp 300.000 per diving day (about US$17); Indonesian citizens pay Rp 100.000 on weekdays and Rp 125.000 on weekends and public holidays. We arrange your park entry and confirm the current rate before you dive.
Is hotel pickup included?
Yes. Pickup and drop-off in Labuan Bajo is free on every dive day.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, sunscreen, a hat, your certification card and logbook if you have them. We supply all the dive gear, plus towels and bathrobes on board.
Can non-divers come along?
Yes. Friends and family can join the boat as snorkellers at a reduced rate. Just mention it when you book.
